Symphonic poem
There is hardly a city more music has been written about than New York. Numerous composers have expressed their fascination with this metropolis in songs, musicals or symphonies. In my symphonic poem I want to vividly show the listener a day or a night in this city. At the beginning there is the skyline, at first only in its outline, but then more and more impressive and gigantic it builds up in front of us in its full appearance. You feel transported to an unreal world. Thousands of people enliven this cosmopolitan city at a breathtaking pace. Huge blocks of flats, oversized advertising fields, office complexes, countless shops and restaurants look scary and fascinating at the same time. Somewhat awkwardly you "stumble" from one street to the next to practice something like strolling, but the pace of this city inevitably catches up with you. This enthusiasm comes to an abrupt end when you enter the "Ground Zero" memorial. You look at this gigantic hole where two mighty towers once shaped the image of the city. As if in slow motion, the terrifying images of September 11, 2001 run through the mind's eye. It is oppressively hot, the air is reflected on the horizon. Suddenly an icy wind blows into this unreal scenery and you are caught by the incomprehensibility of this event. Time stands still. In the last part of the play, I would like to trace New York's extravagant nightlife. The exuberant zest for life and a myriad of entertainment options turn night into day. The city gets a completely different face from millions of lights and shines in new splendor. But soon the dawn appears on the horizon and you try to find peace. But this city never sleeps.
